220S Oil bath variety?

RE 63 220Sb

Something I don't know about the air filter. It appears to be oil bath variety and the manual doesn't seem to instruct in its use.
1st: Is it an oil bath type? (small holes encirlce the base of the filter floor while underneath this floor is a 2-3 inch deep space in the base of the filter housing)

2nd: What level to fill, with what kind of oil (Mobil 1, NOT) and renewal frequency?
Thanks

yes, it's an oil bath filter. Has a basket in the center filled with steel "scrubber pad" like material, right? Actually, it must, or it won't work. If not, probably takes a paper filter, but MB used oil bath for most things up to the late 60s/early 70s.

The oil fill line is marked on the housing bottom with an arrow. 10W30 oil will work fine, check it once in a while to make sure it's not going away or "growing" -- a problem with the 220D I have. Very cold climates you can use ATF instead so it won't get too thick.

Change the oil every oil change, and you will need to rinse the dirt off the bottom.

My '72 220 d is the oil bath type, and it contains a very heavy oil in the bottom (along the lines of 50w). This may not help you, but it's what I have in mine.

I'm thinking it isnt, otherwise the manual would have said so.
It is a paper element, no basket in the center with scrubber like material.
Thanks
