72-73 engine swap

I was wandering if a 1972 280SE engine with a floor shift would be compatible with a 1973 280SE with a column shift. Also, if the transmission from the 1973 would work with the 1972 engine. Thank-you in advance.

If they're both 108 series, I don't see a problem as long as you swap the relevant hardware. What are the production dates of both cars? My information shows that 108 - 280SE production ended September 1972. I've heard that some late production cars were sold or titled as '73 models.

Engine and transmission are identical, just pay attention to which hole in the tranny lever is used on each car.

The W108/109 was manufactured up to Oct 72, so they were considered 73 models in the US if made after Aug 30 72.
