R/H Mirror Placement
Hey all,
ATM my '66 250SE is currently at the pannel beaters having some rust repair. I just had a look at how far everything is going and everything is full steam ahead and I should have my car back on Friday Anyway, while I was there I had a thought. Currently the RH side mirror is placed right up the front on the RH side pannel, Of course this is how it was originally placed in '66. During the time the previous owner had it, he installed a radio antena...right infront of the side mirror, which virtually makes it unusable. Now, I was wondering if I could take the side mirror off, fill up the hole, and place the mirror on the RH door like the latter models? If so, does anyone have the measurements of where the mirror should be placed if on the door? I hope someone replies soon as I'd like to ring the pannel beater soon and give him the details PS: just to let you know I live in australia and the RH mirror is the driver side mirror, so even measurements from a LH american car will do, if possible as well give me the measurements in Centimeters cheers, Manya Last edited by Manya; 04-08-2003 at 09:42 AM. |

You have a unique ? as you have an "old style" mirror on a 108. The newer 108 mirrors are app. 3/8" down from chrome door strip to mirror gasket, 13 1/2" on center measuring from the top of the "crease" in the door front. The old style mirror on my 112 damn near butts to the chrome. I can send photos if you want.

The answer is no. I've got 2 '66 Fintails which have the mirrors mounted on the doors. I bought a replacement for one of them, but was given a mirror which was designed to fit on the wings. The angle is different and will not sit on the door properly. It should be easy to find a door mounted mirror as they were used on across the range from 66-73

I've thought about that since moving to the US. If you can get contacts in South Africa (whereMercedes were locally manufactured since the 50's), England, Australia, and any other RHD countries one can think of it should be feasible to get enough driver side mirrors sent over to the US for use as passenger side mirrors.

Dude!
Get an old Volvo door mirror!!! They are beautiful and not handed and fit right on the door. Make sure you get the back up plate etc, at the yard... BTW, your mirror is backwards!
