Starting engine after oil change

Some manuals advise us not to start the engine right after the oil change cuz the damn oil filter housing (half a liter) should be filled up first. "Crank the engine several times making 1 minute pauses...(oh, the battery)till the instrument starts showing any pressure" Do you procede the same way, guys? I`ve seen many times how light trucks (OM616)just start and drive...
Though I always (try to) do it the "right way" , I`d like to hear your opinion..Thanks!

Where feasible, I have always tried to fill the filter housing before installing it. If that was not possible, I just started the engine. I have never seen Jiffy Lube or a shop worry about it.

The ONLY thing I have seen Jiffy Lube do that was good was pre lube the oil filters.

I ALWAYS prime the engine before starting it after an oil change. On old cars, I just pull the coil wire and crank the engine for about 15 seconds or until pressure registers on the gauge. On later cars I disconnect the EZL and crank as mentioned above. On diesels, I just start the engine and wait for pressure to register.

I just disconnect the coil wire and crank it a bit on my Jeep, but I DID flood it once by doing so! (What I did was crank it so the old dirty oil came out where the filter is - mine is a '92 and the filter is upright, or upside-down, however you look at it, so the oil does not drain out of the housing), then I cranked it to build up pressure. I had to clean the plugs and pull the injector wires to start it, let it stall, then reconnect the wires - but I ALWAYS prime my engines! It's better to flood than to run them dry on oil! Remember, the slightest bit of running w/o oil can be fatal!

I would imagine that on diesels, you could hold the throttle linkage closed at the "STOP" lever and have someone crank the engine for 20 seconds or so.
