Source for under dash panel?
Under the dashboard of my 1962 220SEb "Fintail" sedan, is a fitted cardboard type panel, (but more rigid), that is the original but is quite tired. Just under the bottom front of the dash are several triangular tabs that the top of the panel fits into. The back, bottom and sides of the panel fit into metal clips/slots in a few locations in the footwells and each side of the transmission tunnel, all of which are supposed to hold the thing in place. Unfortunately, mine is so worn out, that the panel sags under it's own weight and the places where it fits into the triangular clips has worn away, so any bump in the road brings the whole panel down. I have been driving without it, but I'd rather have one in place as it gives a cleaner interior appearance. Does anyone know what this panel is called, and where I can find a replacement? Thanks.

Agree. But do a search on this forum - you can reinforce the corners with fiberglass as others have done.

Is there supposed to be a panel in the center of the front passenger compartment just above the trans tunnel?
On my finnie, there is nothing, just the heater control valves hangin' out underneath the dash. I don't mind it, but was just wondering. I think I know on the higher dollar finnies ie 300SE there was a panel. thanks

Yes, there's supposed to be a panel, fastened to the heater box with flaps on each end that fold around each side of the heater.
Most of that panel is still in My '60 220S. I think originally that panel was an extension of the under-dash cover but it separated at the fold line years ago. The heater cover panel fastens to two 6mm screws or studs, just above and inboard of each heater valve. They're the same screws that support the rear of the factory radio and (if fitted) the bottom of the hang-on AC unit. If your under-dash covers are sagged but otherwise intact, you might make some metal stiffeners from sheet metal and pop-rivet them behind the panels. A little black or grey paint on the exposed rivet heads would help hide them. If the panels are ruined or missing, new ones can be made from 1/8 inch fiberboard. I recall that World Upholstery had fabricated them and has them for sale for some models. I do not have the link but they are one of the main suppliers of MB reupholstery/restoration so they should be easy to find on the net.

Thanks to all for the respones and suggestions - I'll see what works best on my car, but I think I'll try the reinforcements since my panels are still in pretty good shape except as described in my post above.
