Buy some wire of various colors and a do it yourself. Much cheaper that way. Do a section at a time.

Knowing MB, the wiring harness on the 3.5 coupe should be close enough to the harness on the 4.5 (108) - so you can harvest decent harness at junkyard.

Installing replacement harness, you probably want to lay it next to the original and connect one fitting at a time - so you dont get lost in the wires....... then cut & paste new harness to old at junctions away from the engine - for obvious reasons, avoid the horrible experience of working behind the dash board.

Its just a matter of splicing wires, soldering them together or using cheap crimp fittings to join them together, then wrapping them up. You can even slit outer sleeve sections lenthwise and double them up for better insulation.

Let me guess, wires got cooked in engine compartment from being too close to exhaust manifolds...... or they just got brittle with age..... At worst case scenario, displaced rubber boot at firewall caused sheetmetal body to cut into the wires after awhile at inaccessible location.

I just fought with this dilemma on my 75 450SE. I looked forever for a junkyard harness but all of them were hard as a rock and the insulation on wires (especially coming right out of a connector) would break/crumble with just minor flexing.

I ordered 13 spools of different color wire (could match all MB colors except for the stripes) and some new connectors that would fit the Bosch injectors. Of course, right after I ordered all this crap I found a wiring harness that was fairly flexible and snagged it. Here was my dilemma, use the 'yard harness or roll my own! After about a week of deliberation I decided to roll-my-own and used the stock harness as a layout guide.

All of the materials to build my own came out to under $80. I spent the better part of a day wiring it and I now have a new top engine harness except for a couple of connectors - Plus I have a stock harness chunk and about 1100 feet of wire left over to do other stuff with!

Good luck,

Justin B.

We had considered doing that and might end up creating our own harness. Pretty lengthy task (especially if you are using schematics as a base.. the current one is badly burnt) but sometimes you reach the end of the road.

Thanks for your inputs! Cheers
