Hitlers Grosser 770 - F cabrio Limo

The Canadian War Museum has Hitlers bulletproof Benz limo. Officially it is a Grosser 770 F-cabriolet. I heard the car is also turbo charged & has solid rubber tires? Top speed was like 150mph? Any info guys? I am not neo-Nazi or find any of Hitlers views appealing in any way - except for that limo! I want to know what that thing was capable of & engineering specs??

Yeah

This limo is indeed interesting...

I dont know anything about it except for the tires, which were created with about 23 independant air chambers with steel running through the sidewalls and between chambers. Supposdely they weighed like 60lbs each and could withstand a full clip from a BAR sub machine gun.

The car was also very fast, though I dont know if it had forced induction.

Quote from 'The Mercedes Benz Story' C.1969 by Louis Willam Steinwedel -
"Sharing a distinction with only one other car, the Phantom IV Rolls-Royce, the 770K was never offered for sale to the general public and often ended up in garages of people like Premier Salazar of Portugal or Field Marshal Mannerheim of Finland. Most of the (88 or 18 -Typo?) 770Ks built found their way into the hands of the Nazi hierarchy.
Lord Montagu's Motor Museum at Beaulieu has a 770K formerly used by Herman Goering which may be considered as typical of its kind. It is a seven seater cabriolet (a less imposing closed version was also made) which, with armor plating and 1 3/4 inch-thick bullet proof glass, weighs 10,000 pounds. With that kind of weight and over twenty feet of non-aerodynamic coachwork, the 770K did not set any acceleration records - even with the supercharger going - although it could top 100 MPH if you had enough straight in front of you."

Happy Motoring, Mark

16 cylinders and 230hp is what I've read..... also about 120 gallon fuel tank.

Apparently the Canadian War Museum was low on funds and threatened to sell Hitlers car, expecting to get more than $20 million for it.

This caused an uproar, as nobody wanted the car to fall into wrong hands - meaning some neonazi group might get it.

So Canadian government coughed up some money to help the museum, and the war museum kept the car.

Also interesting is the story behind the cars discovery..... during the final days of Berlin, it was driven out of town towards the Balkans.

The car was captured by US troops who painted it military green and put it to daily use in Austria.

Finally it ended up in Arizona where it was sold at auction for merely $150,000 in the early '70s. The buyer apparently donated the car to the Canadian War Museum.

That would be a bit of a hike for me. Toronto I can do, Ottawa is too much.

Ottawa isn't any farther that Toronto from you. Just come up on the east side of lake Ontario, Prescott on our side, Bridgewater, NY (I think) on yours. Driving from Toronto its about 4 hrs east then 1 hr north, so really it may be closer to go to Ottawa if you pick your route well.

I have seen this car many times.....I live across the river from Ottawa.
In person this car is huge and quite impresive... I can't imagine it going 150mph, can't remember what was writen on the plaque but 100mph would be fast for such a big car.
Next time I go there, I'll take pics for you guys.

Funny, I thought his (Hitler's) limo was in Las Vegas, in the Imperial Auto Collection. I saw it years ago. It was said that each door weighed 1000 pounds, who know... Maybe a 100 MPH car, not 150.
