taxes of benzes?

hi, i am just wondering that how come you guys in us always talk about high capacity model like the 450se, 500se , 560sel and even the mighty 600! i read about a canadian boy( 16 of age) got an 116 450sel for his birthday! are taxes cheap in the states?

as far as i'm concern, malaysian taxes are not cheap, at least it wasn't for me, for instance, my 220( 2200cc) would cost me about rm 550 per year! i asked about the w126 s-classes, a 280se would cost you rm 1500 while a 300se wil cost you rm 2k plus road tax alone not including insurance! but if your car is 25 years old or more, you will have 20 % of reduction in the taxes but you need to go through all the process in local road traffic department! this scenario might explain why lower capacity model are favoured by the majority!

despite all this, you may still find plentyof benzes around the capital of malaysia! many of this are high end models like the s500, s600, new e class and c classes! the average life span for a mercedes in malaysia i would say is around 5 to 8 years( that means owner normally change their car during this time)

Property taxes covering homes, motorcycles and cars are determined at the state level.... based on assessed value. With an older car you might pay $80 annually - irregardless of engine size.

In Europe cars are taxed on engine size, hence you dont see many V-8s over there. Maybe Malasia has the same system, I dont know. Cutoff points appear to be at 2.0 and 3.0 litre engine size.

Highway taxes are picked up at the fuel pump, where gas ranges from $1.50 to $2.00 per gallon in wintertime. State Dept. of Motor Vehicles charges registration fees that run less than $75 per year.

Federal government provides funds for State mainentance of interstate highway system.

Arguably, the US economy is automobile based as the most widely owned, used, traded and sold big ticket item. Have read that number of cars on the road in the USA has DOUBLED since 1973.

Low Taxes .. Yes

I just paid my annual tax here in Florida on my 1975 450 SEL, only $21. The tax is low because my car is so old .. if I had a newer S Class the annual tax here in Florida would be about $48.
