Foglights on a 64 220SE

Hi folks,
I just got a real nice set of vintage Hella foglights that I intend to mount on my 64 220SE Euro coupe. I've been trying to determine whether the lights mount on the upper bumper guards or the body sheetmetal in between the headlights andf the radiator - Pawing through back issues of the STAR and all my other old mercedes junk. It appears that the most common mount is on the sheetmetal - does anybody out there have a 60's merc with foglights that can make me feel more confident before I drill any holes?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Jack

The parking/running lights on my US 108 sedan are mounted to the sheetmetal where you say- the coupes/cabrios in US spec seem to have had fogs in this location, with directionals/running lights in the sides of the stacked cluster, where my US car has "dummy" lenses- no bulbs inside. the euro spec cars (all bodies) have the all-glass stacked cluster with the fogs where you propose putting yours.

Does your car currently have nothing in between the grille and headlamps?

Thanks for the insight, I've attached a pic of the way the front looks now. As you can see, the Euro headlight stack is all under one big glass bowl (including the turn signals) and there's nothing between the laights and the grill. While that look is kinda intriguing, I've always had a thing for the Euro lights with nice big foglights in between - something I can finally do now that I've found a set of vintage lights. The US lights anf the Euro light installation us the same fender, just different light fixtures. If you have a rough location as to where the mounting hole was place on your 108 (i.e., inches from radiator shell, distance from upper bumper guard vertically, or any other relavant known location, etc) that would be a great help in my location of these things. Thanks again for your help!

Regards,
Jack

I personally like the clean look of your car the way it is, but if you have to mount the lights, do it on the over-rider upper bumpers like on a 600. I couldn't see spoiling such a pretty car's white finish in between, but it's your car, you do what makes you happy.

I recently acquired a pair of mid-late '60s 6" Bosch fog-lamps for my '60 220S. While my
'72 250 has the fogs mounted into the sheet-metal on each side of the grill, for my 220S, I'm planning to fabricate metal brackets to be fastened between the upper and lower bumpers at the existing attachment bolts. I won't need to drill unsightly holes in the bumpers or sheet-metal !

Happy Motoring, Mark
