Truth Is Stranger than Fiction
We have had some serious rain in the DC area this year, and the Wayward Woman's (380SL) left floorboad has been quite wet. We had a dry day today, so I decided to check it out.
I ran the hose on the hood with no leaks, then on the grille at the base of the windshield and got a bunch of water approx under the steering column. Pulled the under-dash panel out and couldn't find anything obvious. Have Senior Management pour water into the vent while I looked under the dash, and find it's coming from a hole and plate where the wiper motor mounts. Someone had probably put a new wiper motor in, and left the bolt out. So I scrounged a bolt that fit, put it in, and tightened the mounting plate up against the (I guess) firewall top. No more leak, and it also cured an annoying noise that the wipers were making when they changed direction. Go figure.

No kidding. Truth is stranger than fiction.
At least the leak is fixed.
