cracked valve cover 114.011 M130.923

Well I guess I have been over tightening the bolts on my valve cover as it cracked down the middle today. The cover is not in two pieces yet so I figure I can still drive it around town and temporarily fix it with JBweld.

Anyway I want to replace it..anybody got a spare they are willing to sell?

What do you think of using this one as a replacement?

The vent is not in the correct place but it looks like all else is correct.

Could I get the cracked one welded?

I've heard that they're aluminum so welding would be 100% OUT of the question. It'd melt it! If they are zinc like they look/feel to me, it's still impossible.

I'm pretty sure you could have it welded but only at a professtional Aluminium welding, but I think even they would recommend you just turf it and get another one.

Just make sure you get the right cover though, cause I know for MFI engines and valve cover has an intend where each injector goes.

Unless the cover is really cracked from one end to the other, it can be welded. In fact, even then it could be done. The waterpump case on my '61 190D developed leaks due to cavitation corrosion. It had terrible pitting and swirls that went clear thru the body. Took it to a professional "code" welder and got it back in as good or better than new condition. And this was 35 years ago, techniques and skills have greatly improved over the years.

Both of the ones you've listed are from 111's...... you will get retro-upgrade screw-on oil cap if the valve cover fits.

Go ahead and polish it before you install it and you will be pleased at the results.
