sluggish power window -- '72 280SE
 

Hello all, yes, it's me again.

Been tinkering with my non-functioning LR window and, by some stroke of fate, taking things apart (to a point), cleaning, and reassembly has caused the window to function -- Eureka! The lingering issue is, the window appears to bind about one-half way up and down, manually pulling it up assists greatly. Is the window supposed to move out slightly when closed? I cannot see any obvious obstructions or bent pieces.

I ran a search here under "window motors" and found a few tips such as shimming the motor to better line up with the regulator. My problem is (still being without my ordered manuals) howinahell to get to the motor in the LR door. I pulled the latch mechanism hoping there would be a bit of access there but to no avail. I saw one suggestion of waxing the window edges/channels also or using WD40, guess it couldn't hurt. I do not want to button the door back up if there is something I can do while I am in here to alleviate the condition.

I don't know of any way to actually GET TO IT w/o taking the door apart itself (with a Sawzall). I was in the junkyard trying to get the LR one out and I had it completely disconnected and still couldn't pull it out - poor green 108 that also donated an ignition box to me and lower A-arm for the pass. side wouldn't let go of it. I only had pliers, no metal cutters, and was trying to pry the door apart, to no avail. I would think you have to take the arm off the mechanism but I didn't want to do that and risk being hurt by (or breaking) the strong spring inside the regulator.

Try lots of grease on the gear and the plastic bits it rides/glides on. That got my windows to open/close 200% faster (and I also "worked" them up and down quite a bit to help as well).

try some graphite on the runners for the windows,also check the old rubber in the tracks for the window.i had the same problem and this worked for me.you can also check the rubber piece on the window motor sometimes it slips,and can slao be rotten.

First clean out any old lubricant that may be currently residing within the tracks. 30 year-old lube makes peanut butter look runny and, in combination with cooler weather, could be slowing things down.
