Attention: Mercedes Drivers
This is what my mechanic called some sort of fuel regulator. This is on a 1972 280SEL 4.5L, but I assume that it is similar on most Mercedes from this era. The plug that goes into this regulator can go either way. He said that he sees it backwards A LOT. If you take the rubber cover off of the plug, you will see a white wire with a green stripe. Make sure that this wire is plugged into slot #7, NOT slot #15. He said that this will affect idling speed and gas mileage. Just thought I would pass the word around.

That's the MAP sensor and a major "Brain" of the D-Jet EFI system
I would imagine that improperly connecting a plug to it would screw up a car's running! So would turning that allen screw as far CCW as mine was

I would worry less about the electrical connection than the vacuum line that comes off the other end. Check it out closely for cracking. The line runs from that sensor to the left head. I couldn't find the braided vacuum line to replace so I use fuel injection line and a small hose clamp for the head end. Tight quarters in there to tighten the clamp but doable.

Yeah, the MAP sensor is a bit important.....
When I saw the plugs it was running a bit lean (stark white platinums), but by recent reports it has plenty of power, so it cannot be too bad! If the MAP is bad, the engine usually runs so righ it blows black smoke. Peter
