76 450 brake warning light issue.
First of all, thanks for the help on the torque converter thread. We were able to find one in LA, and get it shipped up here. Got it in, and everything seems to be working okay.
Now, the current problem is the brake warning light on the dash. We replaced the rear brake pads, but not the fronts. When I first stepped on the brakes, the light imediatly came on, as I would expect do to the rears needing to be pumped up. The problem is, once tyey did pump up, the light remained on. Disconnecting the pressure differental switch on the side of the m/c made the light go off at first, but after piddling a bit, I decided to just unhook it, and the light remains on. It dims when the switch is disconnected, but does not go out. Any ideas? Both front and rear brakes are working, so all I can think of is a stuck switch. Can I remove the switch without having to bleed to system? Thanks - John |

Beyond the m/c fluid level switch, it could also be the switch associated with the emergency brake pedal.

Also, make sure the floats in the master cylinder ar on the switches. If they fall off when the fluid is low, the switch falls to the closed position, illuminating the lamp.
Parking brake is also a likely cause. I think the low pressure switch is self-centering, but you may want to bleed the rear brakes just in case you managed to get some air in there. It's easier than you might think! Peter
