Need Help Estimating Value
 

I need to estimate the market value to two cars:
1. 1975 280C, 86k, tan on tan all original with no rust.
2. 1968 250SE, 120k Tobacco brown on tan all original with no rust.
These are both 1 owner cars with history. Friend of the family as died and cars need to go. Sorry no pictures yet.

So $3400 for the 250SE and $4000 for 280C is closer to today's market value in Chicago?

You can try for $4000 for the 280C, but ....

The trouble is that a casual buyer will have trouble coughing up that much dough for an old car. And those who follow the market (such as it is) for these cars won't like the big bumpers, ribbed taillights, complex emissions, and the fact that it has lived in the midwest. Not to offend anyone, but tan is not exactly a sought-after color.

I personally think you would do very well to get $3000 for it and you will have to go lower to move it quickly.

You might get an opinion from the Chicago Car Exchange.

Thanks for the reply. I've done some business with the CCE before. Their German cars tend to be a little too what they call "restored" for the prices they ask. But I'll call 'em for reference. FYI, The Last Detail in the town of North Chicago has always had serious "concours" collectable MB's. Little too out of my range $$.

Try www.collectorcartraderonline.com. They are not official like a 'blue book' but they have a lot of cars and it will give you a general market price by location.
