Help for my suggish sunroof

This weekend I operated my sunroof for the first time and found that it only opens about halfway before it slows down and stops. I can get it almost fully open with manual assistance (pushing) but then it doesn't close with out maunal assistance (pulling) until it gets to the magic half-way point then it runs smoothly.

I tried cleaning and lubing the rails that were exposed but that didn't help so I am starting to suspect that the cable(s) are also dirty.

Can someone lead me in the right direction on this problem. (no, it's not frozen )

I hate to recommend anybody other than Fastlane, but www.**************.com provides sunroof kits that include brushes on long wires and grease for cleaning and lubing the wire pull mechanism that operates the roof. Thats the only place I've ever seen sunroof maintenance kits.

Great tip. these folks have some items that I haven't seen on other sites. I bought the sunroof manual/kit and the seat repair manual.

BuyMBParts sells sunroof paste in 2 oz tins for about 5 bucks -- a much better deal that $50 for a quart tin that will last you at least six lifetimes.

I believe the W108 sunroof uses cables, so you need to check the idlers, too. Crud built up on the cables can also make them drag, I think, but to really get to everything you will probably have to remove the headliner -- and this means a new headliner, I cannot imagine the old one staying intact!

If removing my headliner is what it takes to make the sunroof open fully.......well, half way sounds pretty good.
