Heater Core Leaking

Hello,

How hard is it to replace a heater core. Where can I get a new/rebuilt heater core and how much will it cost me. Any suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks

J

Didnt say if the car was automatic or standard shift..... big difference, as auto shift Heckflosse radiator requires greater expertise with tranny cooler built inside.

Transmission shouldn't make much difference on the heater core. Many years ago, I removed the heater from my Dad's '60 Fintail 220S to get one of the cores repaired at a local radiator shop. As I recall, it was a much easier job than the '70s W114 and W115 body cars I've worked on and our Fintail had no hang-on AC in the way. The AC and original radios have a support bracket bolted to the heater. you will need to remove the radio and move the AC unit out of the way, if your car has these items.
Big problem with pulling/reinstalling heaters in Fintails is that the plastic heater parts and casings become brittle with age, so things like the air flap levers and attachments for the control cables may break and require some creative repair. When you do pull the heater, that would be a good time to lube the fan motor bearings.

Happy Motoring, Mark
