108 featured in Enemy of the State
Enemy of the State, airing on one of the major networks features a beautiful midnight blue 108 with bundt cake alloys in the beginning.
Too bad they released the parking brake and it rolls backwards into a lake. Sigh.

Ronin
TNT showed Ronin last night, with Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno chasing a few Peugots in a 450sel 6.9 through the streets of Nice. Ronin has some great chase scenes.

Obviously, there were lots of special effects used in the film. The scene where the BMW skids sideways on the elevated highway and falls over the side was done with cables pulling the car. Control was maintained that way, can't have an out of control car during filming.
Still, a really great film. Best car chase scenes.

IAN!
re:"chasing a few Peugots in a 450sel 6.9 through the streets of Nice" Now THAT would be a SHORT chase!!! I'm a former Peug owner and I love them but I'd never, ever dream of trying to outrun a 6.9!!!! Catrinus 73 280C |

Back on track, it's a shame the 108 was sunk. When I first saw that film, I couldn't believe they trashed the car.

In the Beatles' movie Let It Be, about 24 minutes into the film, George Harrison and Ringo Starr can be seen arriving at the Apple building. George is driving a white MB 600, and Ringo rides in a silver MB 600 with a chauffeur.
The working class hero John Lennon arrives in his white Rolls-Royce LWB, while Paul McCartney walks to work... |

There's a Bond marathon on my local programming, lot's of great old MB's. Tonight I think it is "For Your Eyes Only" with Roger Moore, where he kicks a teetering light blue Euro W116 off a cliff.
Tragic, but that incident in "Enemy of the State" is criminal. When was that movie released? If it was recently, we should hunt down whoever was responsible for trashing a 108. 20 years ago it was okay, but not anymore!

Yes, yet another trashing of one of our beloved Benzes!
Flaming Pontons over the cliff in 'Goldfinger'. Fintails overturned & incinerated in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and 'Marathon Man'. W108s in the drink in 'Octopussy' and 'Enemy Of The State', and the aforementioned W116 in 'For Your Eyes Only'. And don't forget the SWB 600, Jack Nicolson mangled in 'Witches Of Eastwick'. 'Enemy Of The State' was released in 1998. Our poor old sedans just don't get any respect! Happy Motoring, Mark

I watched "For Your Eyes Only" the other night. There was a nice 115 diesel puttering around the ski resort driven buy the bad guys.
Also, when the 116 toppled over the cliff, I believe the roof area stayed really intact. It must have rolled down about 150 feet down the rocks landing on its top. The passenger cell looked like it really retained its shape, and dummy might have survived if it had been wearing a seatbelt. If I had the movie on tape, I could review it some and give a better report.
