Check the basics -
Ignition System - points, plugs, plug wires and coil.
Is it getting gas all the way up to the carb.?

The old trick of cupping hand over carb intake "hand-choking" the carb mixture is one that works while somebody else turns the key....... Otherwise have you tried ether / starting fluid?

Am thinkin its cold related with sub-freezing temps last week..... could even be frozen fuel passages within the carb.

What kinda carbs does your '66 Heckflosse 230S have? Am guessing they are Zeniths equiped with electric choke. I've seen Zeniths warp creating air leaks and seen em need accelerator pumps and produce lousy fuel mileage....... But have never known then to cause hard-to-start situations.
