More 250C Vacuum Stuff

So a couple of days ago I started on the cabin vacuum system on the 250C. I am still waiting on a couple of check valves and some tubing, but I was able to get the seat back locks working after replacing all of the rubber connectors and one piece of plastic line that had a tiny crack in it.

The AC system is OK except that the line to the storage tank in the driver's side fender will not hold vacuum. It appears to be a royal pain to get at.

Does anyone know if this is likely to be the line, the connector, or the tank itself?

Will the system work if the storage tank is bypassed?

Any other experience or advice?

TIA

Chuck:

On my brother's 300D, it was the rubber fitting on the tank.

YOu can get to the tank by removing the wheel well cover and working by feel.

System will work without the tank, but only when the engine is running.

Vacuum system(s) will work with the tank bypassed but vacuum performance will then vary with throttle use. Like the vacuum wipers used on many 50s cars. They'd wipe at a frantic pace when idling or cruising but slow to a crawl while accelerating, making passing on rainy two-lane roads even more exciting!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Hmm.

The problem is that the PO obviously did some rust repair in that wheel well, right where the access hatch for the tank is. There is undercoating slathered all over and there appear to be some sheet metal screws sticking through from the INSIDE.

I think I'll leave well enough alone right now.

Can you get to the connections from the inside panel?
