Jealousy.

They think you are rich, and just spent all the money your company had in India or China to build a brand new factory just to put them out of work.

Or they just can't stand someone having a nice car, maybe!

Have you checked your speedo? Maybe you are holding up traffic?

Peter, I think you got it, you may remember a while back my car got keyed while the girlfriend and I went to the movie. We both agree that if the truck had been parked in the same spot ti would have been untouched. A true hate crime. Holding up traffic eh Litton?:p

Actually, I get the opposite - maybe because I need a paint job?

I've gotten a lot of people looking at it and quite a few tell me "Nice car" and, in fact, someone told me that about 5 mins ago when I was feeding her... erm, my habit! I definetly never hold up traffic with her, either... I think I have yet to be passed while driving it!

I think I get more respect driving an old Mercedes. Granted, it needs a paint job and a few rust bubbles fixed, but the car looks pretty good. It seems like more people are willing to let me pull into trafic, let me go first at a stop sign, etc.

On the other hand, maybe it's because they are nervous that I might run into their modern tin cans. Really, think of the damage a 3700 pound Benz could do to something like a Honda Civic. It might just be a matter of self preservation rather than courtesy.

Now the little kids like the car, it's all the chrome on the grill, you know, sort of like this

I get a lot of respect and good comments on my car. EXCEPT WITH THE DAMN RICERS. They HATE me. I have had so many kids come up and try and screw with me, even when the whole family is in the car. Other than that, people give me good looks and nods all the time.

Ricers, they can take me from about 40MPH to 80MPH in acceleration. After about 80, they either give up or their cars don't stick to the road too well. The old Mercedes are great at fast starts thanks to the kick down and gearing. The ricers don't bark the tires at each shift point! Anyway, I usually can take care of them at 100MPH+, since they don't have the nerve to try it!

I receive more attention with this 108 than I do in my wife's '65 Mustang which is ever so sweet. Many people comment on it and do not even know the make!

I am accustomed to driving my rusted-out hulking F350 crew cab and I never get attention or accomodation in that, so when I hop in the 108, the difference in other drivers is indisputable.
The other day a fella in a shiny black 2 door MB (560?--I dunno the new ones at all) stopped traffic to let me out!!

Guess I have not perceived any hostility (which is the topic of the thread.)
