what the?

i have a 1979280sel six cyl had the car three years now and has been no problem at all kept up service as its all done myself anyway changed automatic fluid and filter first time since ive owned it took sump off and found a bolt in the bottom of sump looked every where to see where it goes no where i can find auto works fine maybe its been put down the filler tube i dont know attatched a photo hope it turns out any help would be appreacated

Without seeing a picture, my best guess is - check the valve body (cast metal thing inside the trans pan that the filter attaches to). It has alot of ports, openings and bolts holding the sections together. You may be able to see a wear mark on one of the holes where a bolt used to be.
