Could anyone decode the information from the data plate on my 1972 250 sedan?

426 491 515 580 593
670 H ---
114011 12 7 0 14647 92625

Thanks,

Dan

I would say the first line consists of 3 digit option codes. The second line is paint code - 670 is Ivory. The third line, and I'm guessing a little here: 114 011 chassis number, 1 for left hand drive, 2 for automatic, 014647 for the 14,647th 114 011. Don't even want to guess on the 92625.

You can find a lot of codes on these sites:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/mbcodes.htm
http://www.mbspares.com.au/default.asp?d=179&p=156
I looked for your codes, but I couldn't find all of them. My '72 250 has the following options:
247 - heated rear window
427 - unknown
624 - unknown

If anyone knows what the last two mean, let me know.

Dang50...hope this helps

426 - automatic transmission option
491 - heat exchanger heavy duty (on list as 49/2 between 490 and 492)
515 - radio MB classic or radio MB classic with 4 speakers
580 - airconditioning
593 - heat insulating glass screen with windshield band filter (most likely the filter under the cowling)
670H already answered

Winterfjord:

427 - should be the 5 speed manual transmission option
624 - comes up as the color Gelb - yellow

Mike:
Thank you, but it doesn't make much sense. The color code for my car is Blue 903, which is marked below these other codes. The transmission is a 4-spd manual, so that's not right either.

Thanx anyway.

427 is listed as "schaltgetriebe mechanisch 5-gang" which I literally took for 5 speed, but most likely means 5 gear - as in 4 forward gears and 1 reverse.

According to my options list there isn't a 624, there is a 623 and 625, Gulf States version and Australian version repectively. Possible that my list is incomplete and what I have only has a 624 under the paintcodes.

You can find the list at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/mbcodes.htm

Thanks.

The car has been repainted a white lighter than Ivory ;if it was on a Chevrolet it would be polo white ; with a moss green top. Does the H have a significance? If it had been a two tone originally would the code for the top color been where the ---'s are? I'm not sure what the range of engine numbers are on a Mercedes , but is there a possibility the 92625 is all or part of the engine number? Where on the engine should the engine number be located?

Thanks,
Dan

I believe the H is a paint manufacturer code but not sure. A 114 011 chassis should have a 130.923 engine - close but no cigar. Likely that 92625 includes country originally sold.
