Thumbs up nice fintail on ebay

Just saw this 200 fintail on e-bay. Of course, pictures alone don't tell the whole story, but still... this one really looks nice !!

Gasoline 110 will keep you shifting gears, but NOT struggling in modern traffic like the knockin smokin diesel. The 1966 has front disc brakes and flow-through ventilation, but lacks taxi-cab midship signal lights of pre-'65 models. Unusual on this example is the right side view mirror, probably special order by original owner.

Naturally the narrow SWB 110 will seem tiny compared with your 108, but its essentially got the same interior as the roomy Heckflosse 220Sb - and 220 "S" class wood dash and window trimmings CAN bolt right in - if you dont mind the hassle of removing bakelite plastic dash.

The single solex carb 200 finbody will get fuel mileage in the low 20's - but the small 4 cyl engine will get roasted on long hauls and typically burn oil at 1qt per 600 miles, say at over 80 mph on repeated 50 mile runs.

Off the cuff, I'd say the 4 cyl 110 is easily the finest around-town car that MB has ever built...... assuming this one runs as good as it looks - bid on it and buy it!! Top-end value of the car could be $3-4G at CA sellers market. However, rare and expensive replacement parts include clutch pressure plate, brake cylinders, kingpin kits and rubber door weather strips. There are no wacky electronics, sensors or nutball vacuum devices that can go wrong on this car.

In what may be top-dollar for a Fintail, right now there's a '65 220S on Ebay, seller claims it's "in showroom condition". As of last night there were two bids, starting at $7500. I printed photos of that one to inspire me to keep on fixing up my Fintail.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Interesting... my next-door neighbor has this exact same car (66 200 with 4 speed on floor) for sale in Portland, OR. He's had it for sale for a couple of years (!) at something like $4000 but no nibbles. His is unique because
a) he's owned it since new
b) it's ALWAYS been in the garage
c) he SELDOM drives it (I believe he has about 60,000 miles on the odometer)
d) he was bragging once that the back seat has NEVER been sat it (why you would brag about that is beyond me, but...).

If you're in the area looking for a 4 cylinder fin tail, let me know and I'll put you in touch with him. I would have bought it years ago but I don't care for 4 cylinder MBs for some reason -- I'm a "true believer" in the 6s. Call me weird, I don't care much for the V8s either (except for 6.3s!).
