BEEP BEEP while turning!

My 280 has developed a new irritating habit in the last few days -- at a certain point in the steering wheel rotation the horns blow! Fortunately, not straight ahead, more like 1/3 turn left, but still, honking the horn while making turns is embarassing!

Anyone encountered this before, and is there an easy cure short of disconnecting the horns (as I have done this morning?). Slip ring? Wire inside the collapsable bowl looks OK, horn ring floats.

Peter

Peter: When I was fooling with my turnsignal switch (had it unscrewed) it set off the horn when it made contact at a specific point inside.

Had the same identical problem with finbody car long time ago..... When you pull the center crown on steering wheel, you will see vertical button contact switch that makes contact with small brass ring which itself is levered by the chrome horn ring. Its been awhile, but can remember cleaning the components and freeing the button switch as part of the repair...... no new parts were needed.

Hey Tom, another interesting feature of early signal lights is that they magnetically held their position prior to rounding corners..... If those signal lights dont stick, they generally just need to have magnetic contacts cleaned with pencil eraser.

Psfred,

That beeping sound is a common problem here in S. Texas. It usually signifies that you have a road runner wedged in the front suspension somewhere. Check for tail feathers in the wheel well and a lone coyote circling your car. If you have a delivery truck delivering something from the Acme company be careful.

Peter,

Did you ever fix the horn problem. I have the same issue.
