That is a very lovely model, and that full sunroof is more rare than the convertible. However, that car is in horrible shape and will need a great deal of work to bring it back to civilized condition.

CTH-

At $540 the complete 220SE looks pretty good to me - it just needs some elbow grease and mechanical god-knows-what. But for sure the 220S has more than $3500 in restoration work by comparison...... although it might be a push if the SE car is restored DIY.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of "uncivilized" parts of the country where fully operative, slightly battered and primer coated 220SE in neighborhood with farm vehicles and rickety pickup trucks would be 100% socially acceptable. Too much civilization can be not such a good thing. I can see lots of life in the SE car, if it ends up in the right hands.

Me thinks we are talking about at least two different cars on this thread. The negative opinion of mine is directed at the red car with the underside rust and the rotted sunroof.

The posted URL was appreviated so I didn't notice the different auction ID. The text with that second post didn't make it clear (to me) that it was a comparison of extremes.

Oh, and one look at the collection of 12 merecedes jalopies I own would make you think that I'd just love to own another rust bucket like that 220SE, and you'd be right. Too bad I'm 3,000 miles away and have no place to put it. -CTH

Thanks for the update, Joe.... its interesting to note the junkyard refugee 220SE I've linked above traded at $1324...... or $5G less than the near perfect 220S.

Can $5G DIY restoration make the 220SE jallopy a better car than the nearly imaculate 220S?? Hell yes, i believe it can!!

Howdy,

There was an immaculate one for sale on eBay from Toronto a couple of years ago with a fabric sunroof. It was white with a perfect wood dash and great white interior. Marvelous!!!!

It went for aprox 12K. I still have some pics from that car that I use for my wallpaper from time to time. Isn't the internet great.

Here's an interesing ponton Diesel:
