108 upper kingpin trunion adjustment

Found a useful thread of about one year ago which addressed adjusting camber via the eccentric. My query is, my RF tire is showing a bit of wear on the outside so the tire is apparently angled out a bit too much. The thread I reference involved a tire leaning inward, thusly, wearing the inside edge inordinately.

May I assume the adjustability of the eccentric is such that I can straighten this up via the same procedure? The wheel is not visibly canted but the tire wear indicates otherwise. Nor does it seem to handle squirrely.

Thanx all...

Changing the camber will also change the toein, so it's best done on an alignment rack.

However, you can try.

The eccentric bolt has a mark indicating the "high" point on the bolt. Remove the small screw and lock fork, then loosen the nut on the back of the eccentric both and give the nut end of the bolt a whack with a hammer. That will loosen it up. Turn bolt to move the mark further IN, then tighten the nut and re-install the lock.

Do not rotate the "toothed wheel" behind the upper control arm "fork" -- this will rotate the threaded hollow bolt and alter the caster.

I just set mine back to where the original one was when I replaced my bad one. Probably have a caster problem, too.

anyone ever tried any different alignment settings? a little negative camber (tire leans in at the top) does wonders on most other cars, if you corner hard

Negative camber will cause handling problems and eat the tire on a Benz. Spec is zero -- straight up -- at normal right height. It will change as the suspension moves up and down.

The W108 corners FLAT in front -- very little body roll (its all in the back), so negative camber won't keep more tread on the road, unlke American cars (or Peugots) that have considerble body roll, it will give you LESS tread contact.
