Douglas sold its car battery division in 2005.

I think they are lousy batteries. Put one in my car in October 2004 and it didn't last two years.

I've bought 3 of them so far. No issues/concerns whatsoever.

It's my understanding they supply the dealer network in my area with replacement Benz/BMW batteries.

I am happy for you. I called Douglas' customer service and was told the auto division was sold. They wouldn't help me and did not care.

Yeah, they sold their car division to East Penn/Deka.

Per your comment, I agree there's no excuse for lousy customer service.

I sell batteries and yes Douglas is an OEM supplier for BMW and Mercedes. They were a good battery company up until the end. Deka(East Penn) has taken over and their customer service is much better. Deka also makes a good quality battery. We use to use Douglas primarly but now we buy from Deka and Exide. Not real fond of Exide but Deka has increased their cost to much to carry all of their product line. However our Group 49 and other import batteries are made from Deka. Douglas still produces some of those batteries regardless of what was said by the service rep they just come out of the Deka truck.

I have had my size 49 Douglas battery for about a year and a half -- no problems.

Like you, I like that it fills the 108's battery tray and looks correct. The 'official' MB batteries are waaay too much to justify their purchase. McParts batteries just don't look right.

I've had my Exide one for over 3 years now. It looks correct under the hood (it's truly massive) and has been very reliable - even after 2 months of sitting at a time without disconnecting the terminal(s) it will start me every time. No complaints from me!
