Has anyone here replaced door seals on their cars?

As some of you may know, I;m looking into a '66 230S, and I think it's going to need door seals as well as both windshield seals. Is it a pain to do the door seals? Are the seals available cheap anywhere? I couldn't do the windshields by myself, but I would have to find gaskets. Let me know if you guys have any experience with this and how much this could set me back.
Thanks
David

The door seals are very easy to replace but are $$ -- The front/rear I had done on my 108. The window runner for the door windows comes in a long roll and just takes time to replace.

Do you remember how much the seals cost you or where you got them at?
Thanks
David

I got them at a dealer. The front/rear were always a dealer item as far as I know. I did see many years ago an aftermarket gasket set, but I think this was just a gray import of an oe part. This type of part is very model specific and usually is a dealer only part. The door seals are at least $100.00 per door. Any dealer can give you all the prices.

Miller's MBZ sells 'rubber kits' consisting of all necessary body seals for one's vehicle. Might as well take a deep breath and do them all at once. The price quoted for my 108 was $450, I believe.

WINDOW INSTALLATION

Get registered at your local MB dealer as a garage, or paint shop, or some sort of repair facility. I did this with the one in Corpus Christi and saved a bundle. I took in a list of parts I needed and the prices that I had gotten off the net. I asked them if they could match or beat them. The parts guy matched enough of them that it was worth my effort to buy them there. Over all the total cost was maybe 10% more but the dealership is local and the parts gut is very knowledgable.

Check Adsitco or Preformance Products or the like for prices. Some are much less and some are slightly more.

Replacing the window seals. Having done this of my 107 slc and a 115 300D I found: Be careful when removing the rear window if you have a rear window defrost. There is either one or two wires that go down into the trunk on the bottom corners. When you remove the aluminum trim around the window do it VERY carefully so as not to kink it. I used a 'Wunder-Bar' pry bar. It is thin, flat, and has a notch that follows the 'T-bar' on the trim.

Check for rust around the defroster wire holes. Good time to repair it. If you are thinking of installing a new headliner do it now since you have to remove the windows to do the job.

To remove and install the windows I would recommend getting a professional installer to do it. Make sure that he has doen MB windows before you start. Ask your local MB dealer who they get to install their glass. Chances are that they use a contractor. I just broke the front window in my 115 by trying to prep it myself. They have the suction cup holders that make handling the glass much easier and the large table that helps in installing the gasket and trim.

If you try it yourself remember to install the window into the gasket, the trim into the gasket, and THEN the unit (window, trim and gasket) into the car body. You can not get the trim to stay in place after you have installed the window in the body. This is a trick that, if the installer has done MB windows before, he should know. Ask he before you start how he will do the job. If he doesn't know this trick don't let him do it. Since the windows are not furnished by the installer he will not guarentee that they will not crack. The worst sound you will ever hear is that tiny pop as the window breaks.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Don't forget to check ebay for seals.

I got lucky a while back, and got the 4 door seals and a trunk seal for under $350.

Looks like windshield seals are starting to become a little harder to find than they used to be. I still have to buy mine.

Good luck, and take a few pics of the project, if you can.
