Seat Exchange W114/115

Hi Guys,

Will the seat internals from a 1971 220D swap with a 1975 280C?
I have spring sag and I found one in the recyclers that seems to have none at all.

Thanks!

Alfred

Bottom springs are identical, but I don't know about the back. You would have to look.

Another question for 114/115 floppy-seat owners might be whether or not passenger's side is interchangable with the driver's seat...... Havent owned one of the /8's in awhile, but can vouche that swapping passenger's for driver's seat CAN be done with 123 cars so it just might work with the 114/115 too.

Meanwhile, just how much difference can seat backs make if tracks that mount the seats to floorboards are identical??

Springs are interchangeable side to side.

The difference in the seat back is that the coupe folds forward to allow access to the rear seat and the sedan does not. This may just be the seat bracket, or it could be a completely different spring set, I don't know. Bottom track isn't involved in the hinge to the best of my knowledge.

You can physically swap the seats, but the handles for the adjusters will be in the wrong position, and the knobs that adjust the seat-back angle will be next to the console and very difficult to turn.

New springs and pads are available and an easy repair, lots of posts on how to do it, including one from yours truly.

Seems to me I remember reading somewhere that the coupe seats are lower than sedan seats due to the lower roof line but now I'm not sure. It might just be the backrest itself.
