Hey all! I was able to get the car started with a Solex rebuild kit. Replaced the seals and membranes and I think it helped. But the real problem is that the sleeve that holds the float needle in place will sometimes pop out of place, keeping the needle down, blocking fuel flow. I pushed it down as much as I could and the car has been running great for about 2 months. Solex should have made that sleeve threaded so it wouldn't come out with heat-cold cycles. As for the manual, I was able to find a link to a series of PDFs online. If I can find that link, I'll post it here. Hundreds of pages for any Solex used in a classic Mercedes. Tom, I'd love to see pictures of the car!

Hey Baco
I'll have to get on the pictures. My friends back in Pennsylvania ( where I'm from) want to see pictures of it also. It's an Arizona car so there is not a speck of rust on it. The paint is seriously oxidized on the back trunk but no kidding...the body is perfect. It is a hideous red/brown/? color. I think it is called carnellian red.
I'm new to this restoration game. I'm a novice mechanic but I found this site yesterday and I am psyched! I have been looking at a diesel and thinking about selling this car but now I think I'll keep it. I've only had it a month but I have to tell you..I'm really growing to love it. I'll be in touch, Tom 1973 MB 280 2.8 82,000 miles |
