trouble researching vin
Ran into some trouble trying to research the vin on my 78 240D. Most of the
online search engines stated I couldn't use an "0" character but there are 2 in my vin. Anybody have any idea what I can do or where I might get the info? |

Most likely the search engines you're using only recognize the new 17 digit VIN's. Your 240D most likely has a VIN that looks like this 12312312XXXXXX or 12312310XXXXXX.
We know that it is a W123 series with the OM616, left hand drive with an auto, or left hand drive with a stick. The rest of the numbers are the individual production number. Most everything else you might try to find out about is listed on the data plate mounted on the radiator support.

14 digit VIN is what I've got on my '79 - but you can skip the first 8 if you are trying to order parts.
What kind of research are you trying to do and what kind of info are you looking for?? |

You can email mbusa/classic and they can get you the data card for your car.
