water in oil question
i checked out an auction yard today looking for a diesel and instead i came accross a beautiful w108, 280se, 1971, baby blue with dark roof, excellent mb-tex and carpet interior and almost perfect wood except for the dash skirt. all the little stuff works except the a/c. no rust and excellent chrome. a garaged car.
the straight 6 engine starts right up and is smooth and powerful. but it has water in the oil. (no oil in the radiator). question? could this be an easy fix? just a head gasket? or is the gasket just the beginning. almost no smoke. thanks don diesels are gods and gas is trouble |

Does the oil look like chocolate milk or is it just droplets on the dipstick? Worst case could be the car's been overheated and the head is cracked. I would want to change the oil & filter, then warm it up and check for white smoke, coolant loss and return of water to the crankcase, but this may be difficult to do BEFORE you buy it.
Happy Motoring, Mark
