how to replace the water pump?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hi i have a fintail 67 gas and trying to replace the water pump. Is it straight forward. Removing the water pump and leave the heater/radiator/bypass hose connection assembly in place. Do i need to know anything before removing my water pump. Aside from the gasket do i need to put some hi temp sealant or the gasket itself will do fine. |

If the last guy used sealant you will know it because you will have to hit the water pump hard with a rubber hammer just to free it up. Even with practically no pressure against the gasket on account of the WP lip fitting snug into the engine block, lots of people use sealant just for the helluvit to screw up the next guy who has to replace the water pump. Never in my life have I ever seen or heard of an MB water pump mounting gasket that leaked.
Otherwise an old timer's trick for ALL gaskets is to never install them dry but wipe a very small amount of oil on their surfaces, just enough to darken them a shade. This also makes most gaskets reusable if you have to. Adding new lock washers for 9mm bolts will guarantee the WP never comes loose without having to glue it in place. And if that's a 110 6 cyl, then you should probably cover the radiator core with cardboard so it doesnt get scuffed removing the fan or other components. That's about all I can recommend, not having a Finbody of my own at this time. |

I think the bottom , right mounting bolt goes into the water jacket, so use dope on the threads...........
