Nice item...
...but he should include the correct drive shaft, otherwise it is getting a real problem.
The 717.400 fits into 123.105, .130, .132, .190, .102, .103, .120, .123, .125, .183, .003, .007, .026, .028, .033, .053, .086, .093 Kind regards Eberhard |

I was thinking about one of these for the 240D. Truth is that 5th gear (overdrive) is not much smaller negative ratio than 4th in the existing 4 spd which is practically 1:1. And 1-4 on the 5 speed is alot closer ratios than 1-3 on the 4 spd...... meaning that I'd be constantly shifting gears in the narrow power band 240D.
But it's probably a good idea for gasoline engines like in the 280E which have much wider power band. I once had a 116 280SEL 4-spd with the same tranny as the 240D but shift points on the speedometer were entirely different. I'd say this 5-spd tranny is ideal for *any* 6 cyl gasoline Benz, but it's a bad idea for somebody like me who drives a 4 cyl diesel. |

Having him keep the flywheel is the PITA part....you need that to get it to work.

DieselDog, the fourth is on pretty much every Mercedes tranny 1:1 as direct gear.
The gears 1 - 4 has pretty much the same ratios for four speed or five speed, so the fifth is actually a decent overdrive rated usually at 1 : 0,81 Especially for Diesel engines it is a very good feature Kind regards Eberhard |
