Looks good with the tires, even though it is theoretically incorrect for the year of production. Early 111 coupes certainly had such tires, so it still looks correct. When the tires on my fintail wear or rot (the latter will probably come first), I am going to replace them with wide whites. According to all sales lit that I have, wide whites were offered through 64 (passe by then, just like fins), and in 65 MB finally went to thin whitewalls.

You have done a terrific job rejuvinating your coupe. I like the period look of your wide whitewalls, regardless as to whether they are correct or not. Us 111 owners are a little prejudice in that we think our coupes or cabriolets are the most beautiful of the MBZ designs since the 60's era. Since you are soliciting recommendations, I suggest relocating your battery to the left spare tire well. It will clean up your engine compartment and allow easier maintenance access to the left side of your engine (Injection pump, power steering, oil filter, fuel filter, etc). Gregg - i had that in mind to do it at a later date. right now i dont have a garage to work out of and the car is my only mode of transportation. i am in the search of a new home, with garage. till that happens and i pick a beater to roll around in, i cant rip into the car too hard. just concentrating on reliability with mechanicals and safety. maybe alittle flash in the mix. theres alot of looney ideas i have for the car, but that will all have to wait.

i am not trying to solicit recomendations to another forum, if thats what u are implying. i simply cant figure out how to post my pics in a smaller file. the other forum will accept any size pic. its was just easier to post there and copy pic to post here. otherwise i am stuck and cant post pics here. not intentional.

i just added another bit of flash to the car yesterday after i recieved it in the mail from germany. its an ivory, possibly white at one time, steering wheel. the original is black with a black center pad. the new old one had a tan center. makes great match to the tan interior. a friend stopped over to hang out and saw the wheel. called me a pimp. hes lucky i didnt drive him downtown, pat him on the ass and tell him to "go make daddy some money". since i dont want to be banned for soliciting, i will have to figure out how to downsize pic before i post it for u guys to see.

Today, I was watching the 1965 James Bond film 'Thunderball'. There was this scene, where the bad guys were delivering a 'patient' to the sanitarium, in a cream colored 190 Fintail ambulance, with wide-whitewalls!

Heckflosse - i picked up a broken cluster, center front seat tray and front speaker cover at a salvage. started to strip the wood. veneer has flaked off the cluster and tray. speaker cover has a couple broken louvers. planning to remove all veneer and glue it all back together. fill the holes with putty and make a cast of the cluster. with the cast i will try and fabricate a fiberglass shell. take the glass copy and veneer and seal with marine uv resin. modern materials for an old piece. i plan this with the door panels too, reenforced with metal framing. no water worries, no sun worries, works good, last long time. hats off to the purest, but i guess i'm not one. rest assured i will keep the original pieces and restore for safe keeping. hope i dont tick too many people in here.

Thanks for the idea of wet sanding the paint yours turned out so nice I am going to try it on my 300sd I hope it turns out as well. Your tires look great the car looks great.
