Parking brake! How hard can it be?

I would like to contribute to the lament about the careless *********$ out there. I went to get my car, which was parked in an uphill AND a pretty sharp bend. Honestly, it was NOT touching a Mazda pickup when I left it, but look what happened while I was gone...

Not only was the Mazda leaning on my car, but because the street is turning he also had the flatbed in the middle of the street. I thought I had two choices, either call the police and have someone tow it, or to rescue my car and leave the truck for itself. I chose the latter.

I put a plank behind the rear wheels and GENTLY reversed my car. After going back and forth 4 or 5 times I was free, and the Mazda was standing safely (?) Luckily, the Benz didn't have one scratch!

I love old benzes. That thing rolled into your grill and not a scratch :p

A few months ago a civic rear ended my 450sel with the euro bumpers and it was a low and slow hit but his bumper, headlight and hood was dented in pretty badly and my benz didnt have a scratch on it whatsoever. Didnt call the cops on the kid but i had my good laugh at it.

Oh you should really have removed the plank or left a nail in there just to serve them a lesson.

hmmm, 6 months ago I was rear ended in my '79 SD by a '96 grand Am. I broke their front license plate holder piece ($86). The damage to my car totalled it. The frame was bent, RR door was hard to shut, and the 1/4 panel had a large crease in it. Estimated at $3,000 to fix. I kept the car and took it to a body guy I know and had everything back to pretty new again for $900. They gave me $3500 for my car after I put up a fight. Granted, my car did have rust in the trunk, etc. and I found out there was bondo there that I never knew existed on the car. Oh well.
Thanks
David

Many years ago, I came out from my first apartment to find a Chevy Vega using my Ponton's front bumper as a parking brake. As I needed to go somewhere and had no plank handy, I simply backed up and the Vega gently rolled up on the curb and 'parked' there.
(I wonder who would have been liable if the Vega had kept going and caused some damage?)

Ok ok. I am soooo mad because I have been tooling around in my W107 500SL for a few days, trying to keep the oil barons in business..but the idiots here take the cake
Most cars are little 600cc Daihatsus not much bigger than a riding mower in the US :blank:
Anyawy, I park the SL and hop into a local *diner*, when I come out, I am blocked by one of these mosquitoes with the driver nowhere to be seen
So I start up and honk a few times, no one shows up. Then I give up and drive out of the space, pushing the little car sideways and pushing in BOTH left doors BIG time
As I was driving off, one young woman comes running out of a 1st. floor office, waving her arms up and down furiously, looked like big bird in my rear view. I didn't bother to stop, since she couldn't be bothered to begin with
I guess I have sunk to an all time low in my driving behaviour

Nachi, but is the world ready for you to be driving an Adenauer 300??

ptoro01 11-21-2004 01:47 PM

Thats amazing, you wouldnt happen to have the huge US bumpers would you. The ones made to be a bench or to rape anyone sideways if rear ended?

Yes, I have the park benches for bumpers :D

I too was VERY surprised, but insurance made it better and more. I think it happened becasue of some rust back there.

:sultan:
The 300 instantly requires dignified behaviour from driver and occupants :D
I have always considered the W107 to have a *drug dealers wheels* reputation, around here it was always a car to mollycoddle a mistress or trophy wife :gorgeous:
Guys that drive 107s around here tend to have *unsavoury* reputations, you know, like nite club owners, *import-export* businesses..............

Methinks it's the stress from too many stolen stars!
