found it what is it

Today at the junk yard looking for IP parts for my 1976 300d with an unknown EURO engine I have the engine numbers but neither Phil nor the dealer can tell me much other than it was used in Europe not in what car or what year makes getting parts interesting. But any how in the trunk of a beat up 220 D I found this pretty nice steering wheel and part of the column it needs to be cleaned but I thought they charged $5 a wheel when I got to pay it was $10 if I knew that I probably would have left it. Well any way it is mine now I would like to sell it on eBay to get more cash for my 115 any one know what it is called what model it fits was it worth $10 hopefully a bit more my 240d needs some parts any help greatly appreciated.
Dave S 1978 300sd 1985 300d euro 1976 240D 4 speed engine might be a refer engine for all I can find out. But I think it is a euro 220d engine

Is it the older style wheel with the horn ring or the regular one that's in the 126? There is also a slightly more fancy wheel in the 116 than in the 126's and 123's. The 116 has ripple's on the outside of the horn button in the biddle. They're like a wavy ridge. The 123's and 126's I belive all are plain there.
Thanks
David

Well it was in the trunk of a 115, it looks similar to something like that. An early 115 or 114 wheel would be my guess, although it could be an early 107. It doesn't look like the later 110/111's so you can rule out fintails.

Also, there should be a part number on that wheel somewhere, there is a number on every part. It could cover a couple different models but the first three numbers should give you a hint.

Part # can’t find one I am going to take it apart and look but under a magnifying glass is 01 08 70 just barely visible under the center cap sounds like a w115?

Took it apart

I took the center cap off took out the nuts removed the wheel from the part of the steering column found 115 461 0017 I guess it is a w115 worth about the ten bucks I paid for it well it is a nice wheel I think I like it better than my 1976 249d so maybe that is where Ill put her
Thanks for the help I was hoping though since the car it came from had a wheel it might be worth at least $50 since it is in such good shape but now it will just have to be something unique on my very unique 1976 240D well at least some of it is a 76 240D
Thanks Dave S

It looks like the last edition of the famous white ivory steering wheel in very good shape. Many of them develop hairline cracks or gaps open up in the plastic and the center ring gets dark as foam inside bleeds dark with age through the vinyl, possibly from sunlight exposure.

I'd call that a very good grab at $10. Knowing MB, it will probably fit the 110, 111 and 108 (if not Pontons too) but check for sure. And if it does then you might get $30 - 50 for it from the right buyer on ebay, say somebody with a coupe to put in perfect shape.

MB often changes parts numbers as new runs of old parts occur for later models. And junkies often stash same make mixed parts in trunks of cars in the yard. Too bad you dont have the white ivory column shift knob to match it, then somebody with finbody sedan might jump all over it.

went back today

I went back today hoping they put out the rest of the fresh cars they had not. The 200 the wheel came out of the trunk has a similer black wheel and shift knob the knob is nice but the wheel is cracked big time. I got the hood star it had a great grill but they smacked it with the big forklift they move them with wich is a real bummer because it was a nice all metal grill. if your in Sf bay area one picknpull has pretty nice 1970 200d no oil leaks 4 speed. a 1979 green 300cd lotc of good body parts and 5 more cars to put out there main yard had like 5 fintales a week ago when i went but not a diesel at all.

Hello,
That steering wheel will fit any Benz from 1966 to 1976, that means the W110,111,112,113,114,115,108 and 109.

Ditto, for my 280C.

A 114 white wheel in good shape is hard to find.

Looks like the wheel in my 69 220D

Why don't you send it to me and I can tell you for sure.

Mine is badly cracked and needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

Concerning the fintail steering wheel, almost all fintails mounted the steering wheel with one nut in the center and a splined shaft. The very last fintails used five bolts in a circular pattern. I believe this is what the Mercedes cars from 1968 and later used. So, if it has five mount bolts, it will only fit the very last fintails. My information relates to the W110 chassis, but would think it applies to the W111 chassis as well.
