Repairing Power Windows

Hi All,

I just purchased a 1973 Mercedes 280 sedan with the dual cam inline six cylinder. I'm having trouble with the power windows and can't find any literature at all on them. Even the shop manual has nothing about them. I'll start taking things apart and figuring it out myself but I'd love some illustrations, etc.

Any suggestions?

Tom in Phoenix

Cleaning and light greasing can work wonders. Electric parts cleaner and brake cleaner spray for mechanicals are good products. Both dont leave any residue.

You will probably be surprised how accessories like elect sunroof and windows can be revived.

Door panels are piece of cake for removal. With manual windows on a '74 280 sedan I once solved a window problem by discovering a loose window track bolt.

Tackling the problem on door-by-door basis using common sense and even waxing the tracks can work wonders. You probably dont need an instruction manual. These cars are a built on simplicity and *any* technical problem can be easily figured out.

Enjoy the new Benz!! None of your efforts will be wasted and you will be amazed how do-it-yourself friendly is the design.

Try Mercedes Source http://www.**************.com/. They have a manual that walks you through the repair process. I replaced one of the regulators in my w123 280E last spring and it was a real help to have the manual.

Good luck.

Have you checked the fuses first? They're on the passenger side of the firewall. There are 2 fuses - one for the left front and right rear, another for the right front and left rear (they're wired diagonally). What exactly is the problem?

Thanks

You guys are the best. The **************.com is awesome. I'm probably going to have to do at least 3 out of the 4 doors so I'll let you know how it goes. I guess in a month or so...I'll be the expert on power window repairs!

PS Some A**h*le backed into my MB last night in the parking lot. No note, just left a dent by the right rear wheelwell. We have a lot of bad drivers in AZ
