108 4.5 radiator fan "issues"
Getting ready to put the beast in the garage for some work (subframe mounts, PS hose dribbles, maybe an upgraded heating fan/blower, check the brass heater valves & control cables, etc) and noticed the last time I drove the 108 about 10 days ago, the fan was running right after start-up. It was a COLD day and the temp stayed right at 175 like always. Didn't think too much about it but when I moved it today, the fan kicked in even before I started the engine. let it idle a long time to watch the temp but it was right at 175. Wut is up? Wut should I check, certainly isn't a blown fuse...
As always, the collective wisdom, advice, smarta$$ remarks will be greatly appreciated. |

Is your AC on by chance?
Defective temp switch on reciever/dryer or on thermostat housing, or the wire fallen off and grounding will do this. If it goes off with the key, it's not a stuck relay. Peter

As I expected, Peter, you are the first to chip in. Nope, AC is off. Does this also negate your "wire fallen off" theory? Thanx.
BTW -- What wire? |

Nope. Single wire to a switch on the mainfold water crossover passage, passenger side front, and one on the receiver/dryer up in front of the radiator, or a ground somewhere between either switch and the relay.
Either one of the switched is grounded all the time or the wire has come adrift and is grounding, this energizes the relay and turns the fan on. Peter

Peter, once again your encyclopedic knowledge (and ability to locate the precise braincell where said knowledge is deposited ) amaze me. Thank you, I'll check it out and see what makes sense with your advice.
