Auto to 4 Speed
So I've begun the project. Several mistakes for those who follow and are interested.
Remember to take every bolt write a list or something. Bring anti-seize/WD-40 or the equivalent as the bolts which secure the rubber coupling to transmission output shaft like to get frozen and you'd hate to spend 3 hours breaking the output yoke while trying to remove the bolts. Take the pressure plate and clutch disc if they look good, mine did and I left them to the tune of 514 dollars including the throw-out bearing. Hydralics parts are also ridiculuosly expensive, making new hydralic lines is a little problem. To get the pedal assembly off, you've to remove the bolts from the master cylinder, at the firewall, pull out the instrument cluster, take out the one below the cluster. Statically balance the flywheel with the pressure plate before you mount it, would hate to add vibration to your lovely merced. I'll post some pictures. Any thoughts on the extra auto trans I'll have lying about? Should I sell it on ebay or put it in a vintage Merced with a blown tranny and sell it? Tom @ 18007415252 just saved me 100 dollars on some bolts I needed, this guy is really a great parts guy. Thank you Tom Last edited by dalba; 01-26-2005 at 02:25 PM. |

Dalba, is this occurring on the 114/115 in your sig pic?
I'd be interested in knowing if the driveshaft needs any alteration. Also, do you have any idea if 123 clutch, tranny and bell housing components are compatable with a 114/115 recipient car? |

drive shafts are different lengths, I've a pic but I''l post it with the HOW TO, not sure about the bellhousing flywheel compatibilities, but I know how to find out, call up the mercedes wrecker sun valley here in so cal and ask your questions, or just have them send you the bellhousing. good as anything. I'd be interested in stuff to swap as the five speed from the 123 280e's would be nice bolt on if bellhousings and all matched, oh well dreams, waiting on my last part to complete the install, stupid adjusting rod on the slave cylinder.

More here about an auto -> manual conversion I did a year ago.
FWIW, I think the back-end of the M110 engine is the same as an OM616-617 block so the adapter plates are the same and thus, the later model manuals from 123 chassis 240s should swap out. IIRC, the pedal on the 114/115 chassis looks different from the pedal group for a 123 so that could present a problem.
