280SEL 4.5with a Leaking Fuel Pump
Well, my fuel line saga contiues to a new chapter. I finally got the correct 11mm fuel line to replace the old one from the tank to the pump. Naturally the tank was bone dry which contributed to the car not starting.
Installed the new line, poured in a couple of gallons of gas, hit the key 6-8 times to move fuel to the engine, and it fired right up. Amazing. Stuck my head under the rear quarter to check for gas leak and behold fuel is spaying out from the little vents(??) around the inlet plate. It's obviously a pressure side leak but it looks like it's coming from the low pressure side. Bad news is that it does not leak unless the pump is running and then it spays on the electrical connections. Could be a real "Aw Shucks" Has anyone ever attemted a repair. MB does not list any replacement parts...just the pump, but with luck, they use standard o-rings.
