I once learned something a long time ago and it has stuck with me ever since.

"He who expects no gratitude shall never be disappointed."

And man, what a credo to live by! Kinda like Murphy's Law!

Who says that gratitude was even part of the equation here? At least as far as I was concerned, perhaps it was.....yes....actual LOVE for the cars. Believe me, gratitude expressed from the likes of Stu Hammel and Michael Trei is and was NEVER any sort of motivating factor for anything I ever did for the M-100 community.

Cheers,
Gerry

Gerry,

That quote was in reference to all things in daily life. But yes, love for the cars is generally an M-100 cuckoo's motivating factor, unless of course you have loads of money to burn and just want to have a mobile incinerator to throw it into.

Arron, I know both you and Gerry. Yes, I'd say Gerry has burnout but for a very ODD reason which I won't go over. I was spared it because of my theory of water off a ducks back.
Now that said, I know exactly what Arron is meaning and I've explained it to Gerry. Sure, for less than the cost a a few alterations to one of my 6.3s, the Green Hornet, in just the last 16 months, I could have bought a very nice E500 or 500E. Why didn't I? Because I like the old look, the old feel, the raw power of 6.3s. They remind me of new muscle cars but with grace.
The E500 is super powerful and hand built by PORSCHE. I know, I was a co-pilot with Gerry in his power monster. The only way I could tell the speed was by watching the speedo climb over 130 MPH. I like the snappy, quirkyness of the 6.3 and will die owning them. BUT, I'm a generation older than both of you. Gerry's E500 is exactly to him, what my 6.3s are to me. They are very ifferent animals. Arron is a very rare guy, he is a young guy that likes the old school Benz models. Most young guys want new, I hate new, despise new is a better way to say it. Give me old any day. 6.3s are in my eyes but new to a guy of 70 years.

RR3 and others with an interest in the "Worlds Greatest Auto", yes, I changed the quote a tad.
First RR3, you asked several months ago about a bounce in reverse. Just today, one of mine is doing that. My quess by feel, it's one or both of the following; 1) a tad out of tune, this one runs a little rich and the RPMs are slightly low. That low RPM level might be the best choice. 2) A tranny vacumn issue. Either one, they are no big deal.
Now on engine rebuilds. Yes, they are about 3 times the cost of a 4.5. The exact amount, I'd rather not say. Are they worth it is a better question. Oh yes and the only way you will know; do one.
But don't rebuild it by the book. Use our formula. Ours is the best, track proven. (Modest, right?) We will be bringing one of our best 6.3s to the annual M100 Meet in Charleston, S.C. With me in the copilot seat, I'll let interested parties sample a new 6.3. (intrested is defined as a guy that wishes to rebuild their 6.3, we are not in this business). No hard driving though. If you want demos, I will drive. Thev reason? There is an weakness we have found in 6.3 rear diff. A rookie can blow a rear diff in a second. driving a modified 6.3. 1/4 mile runs are no problem, it's a tight left turn that kills them under full power.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your response.
About the bounciness in reverse the mechanics at Mb told me the same thing about the out of tune thing. I thought that it might be the rear axle brake holds that are worn. Its weird how it only bounces in reverse and not in forward motions.

RR3, I didn't adjust a thing, heck, I never do, but that bounce was gone today. Prbably so close it was an air pressure (atmoshere) thing? But anyway, in todays climate, the bounce was gone.
