Hi,
I am considering to buy 220 cabrio that has a bad vinil interior. My wish is to put newer Mercedes leather interior with headrests in this classic. (My friend has several beautifull interiors from 300e, 420, which I can buy for $700 for entire interior) So would it be possible to put newer car interior into a classic car. Is heavy duty modification required or could it be home project for an enthusiast like myself? I know that the purists would be offended but I would like to have headrests and confortable seats. Please help with your advice if you have experience. Grateful in Oregon |

If you're lucky, the new interior's door panels are always bigger than the old. But, what happens when the spacing between the window crank and the door handle is off by 2 inches. You can't fill in the extra hole.
The interior pieces for the door are stretched onto forms that present a shape. You might as well just get a real interior cut to the shape of the car rather than take one that isn't cut right and try and make it fit. In short, it's not worth spending 700$ on a poor interior. You won't be saving that much money to have the cab interior set up correctly. Leather isn't all it's cracked up to be (sorry for the pun). A texahide or cloth interior is in many ways much superior to leather and cheaper too. -CTH |
