1976 280S forsale!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this.....

I'm trying to sell my `76 280S, it has rusty rockers, and trunk wells, but what W116 doesn't??? Car runs and drives well, has been sitting in dry storage for awhile. PM for details.
Thanks!

116 Rust

Not to be too critical, but the reason 116's rust in the North is the salt compound that they dump on the highways. My 76 116 450SEL has no rust anywhere, but it came into El Paso TX from Germany and "lived there" all its life. I am originally from Pa.; live in Dallas now -- and I know all about cars rusting to death up there. Many of the newer cars are made of non-rusting materials in their lower regions, so the problem is not as serious for them.
Too bad they can't find something to put on the roads that doesn't tear the devil out of people's cars, the bridges and everything else that it touches.
They tend to use sand in New England and also down here in Texas when the snow and ice come... it makes a mess, but does not eat out the rocker panels of cars.

Could be worse

I think all Mercedes Benz cars from the 70's rust. I have a 71 250CE in England that was a major rust bucket. Worse then the 450SEL I have now. Could be worse though, I could be an Alfa Romeo fan.

Talking Rusty 70's Mercedes

Someone in the group mentioned that some Mercedes of the 70's made during a steel strike in Germany, when steel was brought in from Russia to make cars, did indeed have a rust problem. However, that was apparently only one or two years out of the 70's. I still believe damp climates, coupled with the use of salt on the roads during the Winter, causes most rust in any cars. Again, my 76 is totally rust free everywhere ... which is of course very helpful in maintaining the body .... just had the whole car repainted Midnight blue metallic today and the painter was amazed at the excellent condition of the body. ..... My 76 280C is 100% RUST FREE, it was from CA, and has only been in PA for as long as I have owned it!
