Inj.pump question

Hi,
Is it O.K. to krank the engine(by a remote switch to the starter) with the IP lever in the STOP position? Any damage to the pump?
Thanks a lot!

That's actually a very good question - when dealing with primitive diesel technology from the dinosaur age.

You can crack open a few of the fuel line nuts at the pump to relieve pressure just in case primitive bosch pumps have internal bypass valves skipped by the cutoff valve that can blow under pressure.

Yep, cracking open fuel lines at the pump first is probably what I'd be doing just to be sure.

Changing oil on the 1960's FI pump is critical too, isnt it? A question of having an independent oil sump separate from the crankcase on a roller bearing'd pump. This has been reported to me as weak link on the primitive diesels because nobody changes the oil or checks the level for millions of miles!!!

Does your Heckflosse 200Dl have a hollow camshaft with oil ports on the lobes themselves? If so, then its a rarity indeed. Dunno when they stopped doing this - somewhere around 1966.

Please post some pics, if you've got em - we dont see enough 110 Finbodies around here.

re

Hey,I like changing the oil in the IP I remove the old one completely with the help of a 50cc syringe and put 180ml. of fresh one every(other) motor oil change(may be overkill,but...)..No ,200D`s don`t have the hollow camshafts, I think they were eliminated in 1965 with the introduction of om621.VIII.Actually,the IP`s of a 190Dc and 200D`s (pes 4m 50c320)are the same and are quite similar to those on w115`s ,but have narrower ,er...is this the right term.."pistons "(5mm,compared to 5,5mm of w115`s).The car has been a respectable member of our family since 1971 and now she`ll slowly gain her former glamour I`ll never give her up.
Thanks for the reply ,DieselDog! I don`t have pics yet...
