I pulled out a/c compressor with the intent of rebuilding it (it was leaking). Can't find anybody that would do that. May be I should just buy a new one? It's around $150. Even if I find a shop, how much that might cost? Has anybody done that?

If you're talking about the 2 cylinder York compressor and the only problem is a leaky seal, try to find an autoparts store that has a Murray heat & AC catalog. Murray used to have seal kits and some other parts availible for these, but you may have to repair it yourself. Otherwise, $150 for a new one doesn't sound too outrageous. Also do a search on this Forum for posts by others that have upgraded from the old, noisy York to a modern Sanden AC compressor.

I can only recommend that you upgrade to the Sanden. It is very smooth and puts practically no load on the engine.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. It's AC Delco type A6. I agree - $150 it's not that bad.

I agree with the earlier suggestion on York compressors Quit eeasy to seal with a new o-ring kid as per Murray supply source. The Delco Compressors are harder to seal:you can buy one for about $150.00 (reconditioned that is) or less and may last you for about a year.You can get at least the same mileage out of it if you replace the seals yourself with a seal kit from Santech corp. for about $ 35.00( includes a variaty of seals and connection valves or tire type valves) or buy a new Delco.

[]New[] one from Adsit Corp is under $200. I did it and kep R-12 Does decent job. good luck Aabe G
