W108 vs W109 interior compatible?

Hi,
I own a W108 1968 250SE and am looking to replace the seats and door trims with a leather set from a W109 300SEL. The items are interstate so it is difficult to do a physical comparison. I am unsure whether the rear doors are longer and hence the door trims will not fit or is the body longer in the 300SEL?
I would appreciate your comments.

108 vs 109

The seats are fine the door is not. Also depending if your car is a floor shift and the other is a column shift there is a piece of interior that wil not. Your car is a short wheelbase car so the door panels will not match as the rear door panels on the SEL will be bigger.

The "L" of the SEL is "Lang" (long) and in this case, 10 centimeters of extra length in the rear door panels.

One additional thing to watch in swapping around 108 interiors is window controls. There are three possible setups.
- Hand cranked windows
- Electric windows up to mid-1969
- Electric windows after that

The difference in the electric window setup is where the driver's controls are. In the early cars, they are on the driver's door panels. In later cars, they are centrally located on the console.

The door panels from these varients have different cut-outs for the controls.

Talking Seats

I have a perfect set of MB Tex seats for this car in Tan / Brown colour. Shipping to Tazmania would probably cost more then my car though

Hello Tas, we've got hundreds of Australians here, several New Zealanders but we dont hear much about Vintage MB's from the Island Kingdom of Tasmania.

Heck, wider SEL door panels going into your SE should be no problem..... seems to me that any skilled craftsman can narrow the backing and retuck the leather - even using your original SE door panels as template for exact sizing.

But the real question is whether or not cut-outs for the window crank, door handle and release catch line up

Give it a try, says me, especially if you've got electric windows where the window crank wont be an issue.

If your '68 has console switches, but the new leather interior has em on the doors then so what? Just leave the dummy door switch there to fill the hole and fake out back seat passengers.

(edit: And pick up the famous 109 tachometer and its sending unit while you are at it!!!

W108 vs W109 interior

Thank you all for your responses. It appears that the rear doors are longer in the W109 and I will have the door trims altered to suit my W108 or if this is not successful I will refurbish my existing door trim in leather.
