I have 1973 280 that I need to replace the front window seal. How do you remove the trim around the window? Do you cut the old seal with a razor knife? Is there a special tool that is needed to remove the trim? Also do you use a sealant along with the new seal or just the seal? Thanks for any help.

From the Haynes manual, it sounds like it is a one piece seal. They suggest removing it by "running a small blunt screwdriver around and under the weatherstrip both inside and outside of the car." Remove the windshield, seal and trim as a unit. The trim, they say, comes out with the seal. They suggest a "bead of sealant" between the glas and the seal

Thanks for the information. After reading your reply the trim is kinda in the seal. All the times that I had looked at it I assumed that the trim was separate.

I had a local auto glass to replace the rear window seal on my 75-240D, they charge me $75.00 and I provided the seal.

The tech removed the chrome trim, cut the old seal, then remove the window. He first install the seal on the windows, he then put a rope inside the slot of the new seal, use suction cups to hold the window for installation.

I think the whole job took him bout 3 hours.

The chrome trim is sandwich between the seal, where the trim pressure against the seal to hold the windshield in place. I can't remember all the detail, but I think the tech remove the trim first, then he cut the seal prior to the window removal.
