1976 MB 450 SEL putt putt on acceleration

I have a 450 SEL that putt putt's when I first hit the acceleration. After that it seems to be fine, but if I let off the gas and accelerate again, I feel the hesitation once again. I've changed the spark plugs and wires, air filter is clean and no obstructions...I've sprayed that carburator cleaner stuff but it didn't help. It all happened at once. I was deccelerating because a car was in front of me going up hill and then I accelerated abruptly and that's when it started. Any help? |

76 was the first year for CIS for MB. Cold running and accel mode are achieved by changing control pressure in the fuel system. This is done by the warmup compensator mounted on the right front corner of the engine. Check the vacuum line going to it. IIRC this line operates on venturi vacuum. Another possibility is a restricted inlet fuel screen at the fuel distributer.

Don't these also have the dual action distributor? Maybe the retard is working on high vacuum during decelleration, but not the advance is not kicking in? Or sticking for a second in the retard position?
